Licensing & Copyright
Most of the images on this site are made available under a Creative Commons non-commercial license, with attribution (CC-BY-NC 4.0: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/). This means that users are able to use, distribute, remix, and adapt the images made available on this platform, for non-commercial purposes only. We take the view that academic publishing—reusing an image in a scholarly article, blog, or book for example—and educational usage—material for use in a classroom or at an academic conference, for example—generally falls under the bracket of ‘non-commercial’, but if you are not sure, please check the information provided at https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/facilities/cadbury/imaging-services and if you still need assistance contact: special-collections@contacts.bham.ac.uk
Requests for high-resolution digital images or other formats that are not available for download, and licensing enquiries regarding commercial uses, should be submitted via this online form.

You may not remove any copyright, trademark, watermark, or other proprietary notices including attribution metadata, credits and notices, that are placed in or near the text, images or data.
Further copyright, data protection and privacy laws may still apply to content. You must comply with all terms or restrictions other than copyright (such as trademark, publicity and privacy rights, or contractual restrictions) as may be specified in the metadata or as may otherwise apply to the Content.
It is your responsibility to determine and satisfy copyright and other use conditions in the country in which you are accessing the content before copying, transmitting, or making other use of our content.
Rules of Use
We aim to support a wide range of users to access our data and use the website in different ways, including users using the site in a professional or personal capacity, institutional users, and non-extractive crawlers.
Some users can, accidentally or intentionally, place a greater demand on website services than others. For instance, users running automated scripts that request a very large number of pages within a short amount of time. The aim of this policy is to ensure fair access for all users, while providing a suitable level of performance. In developing this policy we follow examples of best practice for digital archival materials set by expert institutions, and with particular reference to the policies of the National Archives, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Europeana Foundation. For more on this, see our ‘Technical Information’ page.
Systematic or excessive downloads from this website are prohibited. If you are not using a browser, we request that you identify yourself, your web scraper or crawler (i.e. by including a clear identifier in your user agent).
To avoid causing disruption for others, do not place excessive demand on the website: any crawler should use a reasonable crawl rate; any user should ensure that no more than 10 requests are made on the website per 5-10 seconds.
We reserve the right to restrict access to any disruptive or anonymous agent, any user who fails to comply with these terms, or any user who places excessive demand on the website.
Duration of permission
If you use our site in breach of the terms of these terms of use, we reserve the right to end your access to the website. We do not guarantee that our site, or any content on it, will always be available or be uninterrupted.
